International House

The objective of the International House is to help the College take up the challenges of globalization and International Dependence. The college has exchange programs with Austin College and Hope College, both of USA. As a result of this, there will be more faculty and student exchange. There is a need to provide residential facilities for the visiting international guests as well as our alumni, facilities that provide international standards. The International House is expected to provide that.

The International House will also house our Alumni Development Office. It will have state of the art global communication systems and meeting facilities.

Physical Facilities:

The international house and alumni development office will be a building with a plinth area of 700 square meters. It is designed as a two storied building in the typical Kerala style to be constructed in two phases. It will have twelve guest rooms with up to twenty four beds in all, a conference room, dining hall, lounges, dormitories, and fully equipped meeting room for to fifty persons. The house will offer a refreshing mix of urban proximity and rural ambience, and ensure a harmonious balance between man and nature.

Benefits:

Think of the International House as a place for you to spend time to enjoy the peaceful and serene environment of the college, meditating and recollecting the good old days. You can network with your old friends as well as the present students and faculty. You can enrich the UCC community by sharing your experience with them.

Goals and Objectives

  1. To establish a headquarters for the Alumni chapters in India and abroad.
  2. To provide a convergence facility for the Alumni.
  3. To establish staffed information office and regular information services.
  4. To organize activities that supplement and enrich the academic and administrative activities of the college.
  5. To organize fund raising initiatives.
  6. To provide a venue for International student and faculty groups to meet.
  7. To create and maintain residential facilities of International standards
  8. To house the academic and quasi-academic Center for Human Potentials and Community Development (CHPCD) and to provide a central venue for its activities – both regional and international.

Funding

As in any other major projects, we are limited by the funding we have. The preliminary estimate is that we will require at least $180,000.

The United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) and others have promised financial support for the project. The college has raised some funds for the project. It is estimated that we will require to raise at least $80,000 to complete stage 1 of the project.

College seeks the assistance of the alumni in making the International House a reality. US alumni can make tax deductible contributions through UCCAANA. All other alumni can send their donation to the Bursar of the college.

Dr. K.C. Chacko Donates $10,000 to International House Project

December, 2007: Dr. K.C. Chacko, a distinguished alumnus of the college (currently residing at Denver, CO, USA) has donated $10,000.00 to the College to get the International House Project moving. Dr. Chacko hopes that the rest of the alumni will follow his lead and make generous contribution to the project so that we will see it to fruition soon. Thank you Dr. KC for your generous support!

Significant Tax Benefits to US Alumni for Making Contributions to UCC

Since AANA is a non-profit organization recognized by IRS, any qualified donation made through AANA to UC College may be fully tax deductible. (Contact your tax advisor for details)

In addition to this, a special opportunity exists for qualified senior alumni of the college residing in the US. This year, seniors can make charitable donation directly from their IRA. In this case, you do not have to pay any taxes on the capital gains incurred on your contribution. Plus, the entire donation is eligible for a tax deduction (so you get a two tier savings.) You can also donate stocks directly. In this case the capital gains are not taxable and you can write off the entire value in your taxes.

This special IRA advantage for seniors is only available this year and will expire on December 31, 2007. So, if you want to take advantage of this, you will need to hurry.

Please note that, to take advantage of this provision, your IRA trustee should make the payment directly to AANA (and not to you). You can then send it to AANA. Please make sure that you mention to AANA that this fund should be earmarked for International House Account. Please consult your tax advisor on advise on how to do this transaction so that it will retain the tax benefits.

For non-US alumni:
